EVALUATION

Mapping social impact, assessing contribution and Sense-Making.

KABSAC Management & Training Consultancy applies and adapts a combination of sound and proven utility-focused evaluation methods that are geared towards learning from social impact and fit the complexity of social change. We offer to demonstrate how the pathway of change towards impact unfolds in reality and what the significance of your intervention (project, programme or policy) has been in this.

Our work offers you a reflection on your Theory of Change inspired by a variety of methods like: Outcome Mapping / Outcome Harvesting, Most Significant Change, Collective Impact Approach and Time-line Analysis. Through this you will gain clear insight into the expected and unexpected forms of social change that occurred well beyond your efforts and control. But mapping actual social impact is only the first step.

Discovering the significance of your interventions is the next and essential step in creating insights on improving your contribution in the future. Methods like Contribution Analysis, Process Tracing and Collaborative Outcome Reporting are used to find the contribution linkages that connect social impact to your interventions.

Finding these contribution linkages is challenging and can often be disputed. KABSAC Training & Consultancy therefore adds a third methodological step of joint Sense-Making. We believe that the participation of key stakeholders in a clear and transparent process that includes joint Sense-Making on how pathways of change unfold can provide satisfactory answers to any disputes that may arise.

This method is specifically applied to analysing evaluation findings from different perspectives and to help deepen understanding and internalise learning from the evaluation. When empowered with clarity and agreement on the process and a set of tools fitting the nature of the intervention, compelling evidence can be found to confirm or refute the hypothetical link between tangible deliverables and desired long-term results.

We can work with you to translate the evaluation findings into actionable measures that will empower you to make an even greater effort towards social impact.

KABSAC Management & Training Consultancy enables your (network) organization to capture, understand and learn from the effects of your interventions. Together we design and implement a sound baseline and/or evaluation process that enables you to learn from past achievements to increase your future impact, whilst taking care of your accountability requirements.

  • Our proven rigorous evaluation methods recognise and capture the non-linear and unpredictable aspects of social change.

Our learning approach in evaluations.

To strengthen the utility-focus of its evaluations, i.e. lessons being practiced, KABSAC Management & Training Consultancy brings in over 30 years of world-wide experience in creating effective learning processes for (network) organisations. We therefore rely on action research and empowering evaluation approaches by building evaluation processes on the experiential learning cycle.

Our learning-oriented evaluation approach starts with using existing information systems and assisting organisations in adjusting monitoring systems so that they are leaner, result-based and serve the needs of multiple stakeholders. In addition, we organise participatory data collection processes and apply appropriate tools to capture meaningful information from the field and existing documentation to gather complete facts (Exploration). This is followed by a thorough phase of data analysis and interpretation that culminates in a joint Sense-Making of findings (Reflection/Explanation). Subsequently we facilitate an inclusive process of drawing conclusions and developing recommendations since we believe that the more people reflect on improving their practices and results the more likely it is that they will act on the recommendations (Conceptualization).

Finally, we recognize that translating the lessons into policy and programmatic changes is not enough for engagement and change. Therefore, in cooperation with you we work out practical action plans to put the lessons from the evaluation into practice through capacity development measures and /or concrete suggestions for structural change (Engagement/Testing).

Only when actual change in the design, management or implementation of interventions takes place, do we consider your learning cycle to be complete.
